Carl Cox – Artist Statement
Photography is more than capturing an image; it is about seeing the world in a way that reveals the extraordinary within the ordinary. My work is driven by a fascination with light, texture, and the passage of time—how a curtain billowing in an abandoned building or the subtle decay of a forgotten object can tell a story. Each photograph is a meditation on perspective: how we choose to observe something ultimately shapes how we interpret its beauty.
My passion for photography began with my father, a dedicated amateur photographer, and deepened when I discovered my maternal great-grandmother’s love for the medium. Holding her Brownie camera, I feel connected to a lineage of image-makers who saw the world through a lens of curiosity and wonder. From the moment I received my first film SLR camera at 14 and my first computer at 16, I longed for the day I could merge photography with digital technology. Today, that fusion is at the core of my practice, as I blend film photography, digital photography, digital collage, and 3D rendering to create work that bridges tradition and innovation.
As a full-time commercial photographer since 2011, my work has been recognized for its technical excellence and artistic impact. My images have been used in feature articles in Photoshop Layers Magazine, American Salon Magazine, Rockabilly Deluxe, and most recently As If Magazine. My dedication to excellence has been honored by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), with two of my images selected for the prestigious Imaging Excellence Collection.
Whether through film or digital manipulation, my goal is to create imagery that invites viewers to pause, reconsider, and find beauty in unexpected places.
